I promised Phill that I would put up a grassy shot and here they are!! I couldn't decide which focus priority I preferred when I was there and couldn't decide tonight. We all get days like that! So pick your favourite. The view is of West Bay on Vatersay, a small island now joined by causeway to the Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides. It is such a beautiful and peaceful place on a sunny August afternoon. However, on 28th September 1853, the ship 'Annie Jane' with emigrants from Liverpool to Quebec was totally wrecked in this bay and threefourths of the crew and passengers, numbering about 350 were drowned and their bodies interred here. A memorial to the dead is just behind where I took these photographs. |
