Known as "Edinburgh's Shame", this partly completed building high on top of Calton Hill at the east end of Princes Street in Edinburgh was initiated in 1816, a year after Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo.

It was meant to be a replica of the Parthenon in Athens, as a memorial to those who had died in the Napoleonic Wars. Unfortunately they ran out of money. No deep tax-payers pockets then? Still, at least they finished the new Scottish Parliament... didn't they??? ;)

The picture of the building at the top of Carlton Hill has a great tone to it and I love the deep shadows in between the pillars that really make it stand out - and look a little sinister.
