Here I am back from a great holiday in the Outer Hebrides and about to subject you to some of my 'snaps'! LOL. This photograph is taken from the 'North Ford' between the Isle of Benbecula and North Uist. This 5-mile long, dog-legged, single-track causeway, opened by the late Queen Mother on 7th September 1960, is about to receive a major upgrade. A cartoon in a local newspaper joked, "Will there be a bus lane!" The hill in the centre of the picture is Rueval on Benbecula. This, the only hill on Benbecula soars to the great height of 407ft (124m). In Gaelic, Benbecula is 'Beinn na Faoghla', which means the Hill of the Fords. Benbecula's main 'town' is Balivanich and this is where the airport for the Uists is located. |
