***** Hello. I'm Hamish. I started my career as a mascot for a Rotary youth exchange with Canada in 1996 and lived there for almost a year raising funds and, boy, have I travelled since then. Being taken to countries like Egypt was great fun. A recent venture ( or should I say 'adventure') was walking the Fife Coastal Path. When you meet me, take a look at the photos and notebooks in my back-pack to see some of the things I have been up to! Some folk had to pay to have their photo taken with me. I reckon that I have helped to raise at least 500,000 Canadian dollars so far. Come and join us on Saturday 24th March 2007

Dorothy's Story - 10 Years on |
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in the spring of 1997 and had my surgery at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh. The Maggie's Centre had not been open for very long when I was made aware of the wonderful facility. I looked forward to having a place to go, away from the hospital environment when I went for my chemotherapy - a place of calm where patients, relatives and friends are welcome and I was so grateful for the care and support I received during that first year of the Maggie's Centre. To say 'thank you', my husband Joe and I would like to show our appreciation by walking from the Maggie's Centre at the Western to the new Maggie's Centre at the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy. We will be assisted by Hamish the teddy bear. He is one remarkable bear who has raised funds on both sides of the Atlantic. Joe and Dorothy Rosiejak want to say a big THANK YOU to the Maggie's Centres. |

Angela's Story |
The diagnosis of breast cancer in 2003 came as a great shock, particularly as I did not fall into any of the 'risk' categories, having, up to then led a very healthy lifestyle. This diagnosis threw me into a 'whirlwind' and roller coaster of emotions, and immediately sent me to check that my Life Insurance policy was up to date! However, despite the shock, to myself and my family, I have to say that we were guided and advised throughout the whole process. The service and care I received couldn't be faulted. Being accompanied to the Western General by my husband, family and friends reduced the stress of my treatment. Another huge help to me was the discovery of Maggie's and what it had to offer me. It provided a warm, welcoming, friendly environment, information and reassurance. Through one of the facilities offered, (pampering - what else?) I was shown how to draw in my eyebrows - very important - losing your hair is one thing, but your eyebrows? As a thank you and in recognition of the supportive and informative . servlce provided I am happy to walk with Hamish to raise funds for Maggie's Centre. |
