Those of you who know me from old will have seen shots like this one before. I have taken shots of every car I have owned since 1987 on the machair, here at Kilpheder (English:Peter's Town; Gaelic:Cille Pheadair) on South Uist. The ruins of the old Kilpheder kirk and cemetery are in the background. This shot was taken on my holiday there this August and is of my favourite car ever, the Saab 9-5, despite having had to replace the engine at 48,000 miles! Near here can be found the ruins of a number of 'aisled wheelhouses'. These ancient homes were dug into the machair and chambered using stone, wood or whalebone. |
