Anyone who has tried to shoot a Damselfly with a close-up macro will know how flighty these creatures can be. Fortunately this male Common Blue Damselfly (Enallagma cyathigerum) was just settling down to an afternoon snack of a small black fly! Damselflies do not kill their prey before eating, they eat them alive with their serrated mouthparts! All things Bright and Beautiful...! The Damselfly is closely related to the Dragonfly, but is differentiated by the eyes that are separated and the 4 wings, of equal length are held at rest along the body. |
